What is Men's Rites of Passage?

Men's Rites of Passage is Australia's leading five-day initiation program for men. Since 2000, it has invited men out of their everyday lives and into the wilderness — into a process of healing, finding their purpose, and forming a deep connection with a community of like-hearted and trustworthy men.

No technology. No distractions. Five days around the fire with real, honest men who have done this work themselves. This is not a conference, a seminar, or a self-help retreat. It is an immersive experience rooted in age-old traditions that guide men into the fullness of who they are.

"Men are asked to come with a willingness to participate. Initiation, like life itself, is not a spectator sport."

— Father Richard Rohr, founder of the lineage

Originating from the work of Franciscan friar Richard Rohr and the Centre for Action and Contemplation in the US, this initiation process has been guiding men through transformation for over two decades in Australia, in alignment with Illuman, the international custodian of this men's initiation work.

Ritual & Teaching

Drawing on age-old wisdom traditions — poetry, sacred texts, Indigenous Australian knowledge, and the Perennial Tradition — you'll be guided through rituals and teachings that speak to the deeper questions of life. This is not about religion. It's about what is universally true.

Brotherhood & Connection

You'll sit in circle with men who have chosen to lower their masks and speak from the heart. The connections forged here are unlike anything most men have experienced — honest, generous, and lasting. Many describe it as the safest they've ever felt.

Time in Nature

Five days immersed in the Australian bush, away from screens, schedules, and the noise of everyday life. Nature is not just the backdrop — it's part of the process. The silence, the sky, the fire — they all do their work on you.

Shared Meals

Breaking bread together is one of the oldest human rituals. Meals at MROP are shared, unhurried, and an essential part of the experience. Some of the most meaningful conversations happen over a plate of food.

"The most significant day for me was the grief day. I raged like a demon and then wailed like a child. Having a safe space to do that, witnessed by safe men, was transformative."

David
